How To Cut Business Energy Costs
February 9th, 2010 by

For most businesses, the price of gas or electricity is a huge overhead but it is also one that is frequently ignored in terms of money saving. But any cuts in business electricity prices or commercial gas costs goes right to the bottom line therefor it makes sense to review things frequently.

One of the most straightforward ways to do this is to consult with an business energy broker. He is a person whose sole business is tracing the best business electricity suppliers in your market and then negotiating a better deal for your company.

An experienced business energy consultant can do this much better than most individual businesses can because getting to know and understand energy suppliers and understanding how various charging structures work takes up a lot of time. A professional business energy broker can afford to spend much of his time getting to know the market whereas for most business managers this luxury is just not an solution.

In the commercial electricity market for example, different suppliers will offer different price breaks for consumers using different amounts of power. From their perspectives, this is a deliberate ploy to muddle the market and thus to try and de-commoditise matters. After all, if all power businesses sold gas and electricity at al,ost indentical not only would businesses not be able to save money by shopping around, but the competition watchdogs would get really annoyed. So what they do is provide different discounts for different levels of power consumption and for different contract strcutures etc. Your energy consultant’s role is to work his way through the myriad of available electricity and gas price tariffs available to find the one that matches your own business’s needs most closely. It is very unusual, if not almost unknown, for a business wanting a lower cost business power supplier not to save money.

The other attraction of using an energy broker to help you cut your business energy costs is that they usually get paid by the energy company rather than by you so the apparent cost of employing one is nothing. Of course, the power companies must take this cost into their calucations when they work out their prices but it does mean that you can often use the services of an electricity or business gas cost reduction consultant without paying anything!for nothing!
